Summer has come and gone, and Fall is here! Time to get ready for cooler days, colorful leaves, football, and everything pumpkin spice! If you are looking for things to do across the Triangle area, we have some ideas for you!
NC State Fair (10/11 to 10/21)
The highlight of the October events calendar has to be the NC State Fair. This year, it is the 151st edition and it promises to be the best one yet! The fair offers something for everyone! From 100+ free concerts, farm exhibits, deep-fried everything to the incredible fireworks each evening. More than a million visitors walk through the gates in Raleigh every fall—don’t miss out!
Pumpkin Patches & Corn Mazes
There are lots of great places around the Triangle to pick out that perfect pumpkin and to get lost in a haunted corn maze. Here are some of the area’s patches.
Ken’s Korny Corn Maze – Garner.
The Family Farm on Avent Ferry – Holly Springs
Hipp Farms Corn Maze and Field of Fun – Fuquay-Varina
Put on your red and white, dark blue or light blue and cheer your favorite college football team! All three local ACC teams; Duke Carolina and NC State have several home dates during the month of October.
Hockey Action Renews
The puck drops on another season for the Carolina Hurricanes as they begin their quest for the Stanley Cup. The Hurricanes kick off their home slate on October 4th against the New York Islanders and host the Rangers, Canucks, Avalanche, Sharks, Islanders, and Bruins in October.
Bike, Hike & Run
Take advantage of ideal running and cycling weather by exploring one of the local state parks, riding trails or cycling loops. Use any of the Raleigh area’s 180 miles of greenways—many of them connecting to attractions and letting you travel all over the destination—or numerous other miles of trails traversing through parks, and you’ll find runners getting in workouts, cyclists out for leisurely rides, parents pushing strollers and people of all ages soaking up the fresh air. Below are some of our favorite spots to seek out solitude and sun! Here are some great destinations to check out.
Sip and savor chardonnays, merlots, scuppernongs and more while you meet and greet the fascinating people who are forging N.C.’s reputation for quality wines at the North Carolina Wine Festival at North Hills (10/27). Enjoy delicious food, the opportunity to shop local businesses and purchase wines you like by the bottle and case, all while listening to three awesome bands jamming on the main stage.
