You’re not cooking this Thursday

You’re breathing a sigh of relief. It’s not your year to host the family for Thanskgiving.

But, before you take off to celebrate the holiday with family and friends, here are a few tips to be sure that you home is safe while you’re away.

Don’t let your house appear as if no one is home. Set timers on interior lights. This goes a long way to deter those with bad intent, who often look for opportunities during the holiday season. If you have two cars and are only taking one, consider leaving the other in the driveway. This can also create the appearance that someone is home. If you’re going to be gone for an extended period of time, ask a neighbor to move it to a different spot.

Be careful what you share on social media. Never broadcast your location on Facebook or Instagram. Even if you think that it’s only your friends or colleagues following you online,  you don’t who is watching their pages.

It might seem obvious, but check to be sure all doors and windows are locked.

Plan some exterior lighting. Set these lights on timers, too.

Finally, don’t leave spare keys outdoors. Collect any that are hidden from around the outside of your home. Remember, under the mat and in potted plants are not especially original hiding places.

With peace of mind, you can better enjoy the holiday.

Mari was installed last week for another term as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cape Cod and Islands Board of Realtors and MLS.

In congratulating her, Today Real Estate said that Mari “does a great job of sustaining an extremely successful real estates career and still manages to assist her peers by volunteering with the Cape Cod and Islands Association of Realtors, and the Cape Cod community through her volunteer efforts with the Cape and Islands United Way.”

In addition to her involvement with the Board of Realtors, Mari is chairing the health grants review committee for United Way.

We hope you have a happy and safe Thanksgiving. We’re grateful to everyone who has decided to “make their move with Mari.” We sincerely appreciate your trust and friendship.

Enjoy your week…

Mari and Hank
