Truckee Food Guide

With the seasons changing and many ski resorts closing for the year, I always like to revisit one of my favorite activities in the Tahoe/Truckee area…food and beverage.  For this week, I figured I would focus on Truckee and then next week I can review eateries by the lake.  Please feel free to send me your feedback and if I missed any of your favorites, I am always up for trying a new spot.

My wife and I love to keep up with our favorite restaurants and in Truckee, we have four:
Pianeta – If you love Italian Food, this is an amazing place for dinner.  Their fresh pasta dishes are amazing and there really isn’t anything on the menu that I would stay away from.  If you aren’t up for making a reservation, you can always try to get a seat at the bar, which serves a full menu and is a great place to watch the bartenders make their excellent concoctions.
Truckee Tavern – Known for their cocktail creations and excellent wood fired food, Chris and Ryan have made Truckee Tavern a must go place downtown.  Order a “Dealers Choice” cocktail and give them the spirit that you like and the flavor profile and you won’t be disappointed.  Their burger is always great, but the pork chop is excellent.  If you love charcuterie, I think their appetizer is the best around for quality and size.
Moody’s – A Truckee staple for decades, Moody’s delivers every time.  If you’re interested in drinks and a social scene, the bar is noisy and fun, often with live music.  For a more relaxed scene, make sure you eat in the dining room.  They make my favorite French fries in the area and the most consistent dish on the menu is their Steak Frites.  Their Pork Chop is also amazing and they have excellent salads.  It’s hard to go wrong.  If you like whiskey, definitely try their aged Manhattan, but don’t be fooled, it’s got some power.
Old Town Tap – The Artisan Pizzas are excellent, I prefer the Pork and Padrone because anytime I can get pork belly on pizza, I am going to.  The salads are great and all of the pizzas will make you happy.  With a great selection of beer on tap, they are also known for crafty cocktails.

Other places deserving a mention are: Blue CoyoteMarg’s Taco Bistro50/50Burger MeMorgan’s Lobster Shack
